We offer stitching, patching, rubber protective soles, stretching, replacing elastics, and much, much more. Bring your shoes in to any of our San Francisco locations, and an associate will help you determine what repairs are needed and whether we are able to do it.

SPECIAL EVENT SERVICES

Q: What kind of event services do you provide?

A: Since 1996, A Shine & Co has been working with vendors to customize our shoeshine entertainment and “infotainment” services for special events of all kinds, including shining shoes in trade show booths, at conventions, parties, weddings, banquets, product launches, promotional events, and much more. With fleets of portable shine chairs and experienced shiners in both San Francisco and New York, we bring any number of elegant portable chairs staffed by well-dressed shiners to your event, set the chairs up quickly and easily, and let the fun begin. We also subcontract our permanent locations – with three in San Francisco and one in New York, you can host bi-coastal product launches and promotions, as with Bloomberg Businessweek during their 2010 relaunch of Businessweek Magazine.

Q: Do you do out-of-state events – that is, events in states other than California and New York?

A: Yes, we do! A Shine & Co has done events in Nevada, Texas, Florida, Washington D.C., and more! Our shiners are travel ready, and we have a selection of chairs that can be shipped. SHOESHINES

Q: How often should I get my shoes shined?

A: As a general guideline, if you wear your shoes frequently (3 or more times per week), you should get a basic shine at least every 1-2 weeks, a glass shine at least every 2-3 weeks, or a bulletproof shine at least every 3-4 weeks. If you wear your shoes 2 times per week or less, you should get them shined when it looks to you like they need a shine, or once per month, whichever comes first. If you store your shoes seasonally, you will still need to have them conditioned/shined about once a month to keep the leather from drying out and cracking. Also, new shoes should always get at least a bulletproof shine on them before you wear them.

Q: Which of the different levels of shine should I get?

A: If you regularly get your shoes shined, please refer to the answer for how often you should get your shoes shined. Otherwise, the level of shine your shoes need depends in their condition, and your shiner will be able to help you determine which level is best for your shoes. As a rule, any time your shoes display signs of over-dryness or color fading, the leather needs and will benefit from the maximum layers of polishing, requiring at least a bulletproof shine.

Q: What is the difference between the Basic, Glass, Bulletproof, and Saphir shines?

A: All of our shines are great shines, done with what we have determined to be the most appropriate products, and including all the vital steps for proper leather care. ¬†Every shine starts with cleaning and conditioning the upper, cleaning the welts, dressing the edges, and caring for any other necessary details. The difference in levels is that each increasing level of shine will include more rounds of polishing, brushing, and buffing, which progressively builds the shine for longer wear, more protection, greater color restoration, and deeper conditioning. Our Saphir shine is done with Saphir’s award winning Medaille D’or product line, an imported French product that contains a sophisticated blend of ingredients and pigments and is widely regarded as the polish of choice for all fine calf leathers and hand-painted finishes.

Q: What if my shoes are more than one color?

A: All of our shine specialists nationwide are well trained to deal with multicolored shoes. For information on shining shoes with different colors and color variations, be sure to follow our blog!

Q: Can you do anything for suede or materials other than leather?

A: Yes, we can clean/shine/care for suede, patent, nubuck, exotic leathers, satin, canvas, rubber, and more.

Q: What if my shoes are in storage?

A: Shoes can become dry to point of damage while in storage. It is important to shine them or at least condition them once a month while being stored.

Q: How long does a shoeshine take?

A: In-chair shines take approximately 8 minutes (basic shine) to 15 minutes (bulletproof and Saphir shines), depending on the level of shine you want.
